Greedy Bosses complain nobody wants their cheapo job vacancies
Wah lao eh, these SMEs are getting too much liao, now complaining about failure to hire workers to do low-paying jobs
"About 30 per cent of SMEs said they are looking to relocate overseas to stay viable, given the current manpower crunch."
Come on la.... IF you own an SME in Singapore where setting up business is so quick and straightforward and where the government is almost corruption-free but yet you have difficulty in surviving, what are the chances of you surviving overseas?
Many of these SMEs have been over reliant on unbelievably cheap foreign labour till now and yet are threatening the government that they may close shop in Singapore because they have difficulties in hiring more of such labour?! Might as well request the government to import slaves! Laugh my ass off lah... This type of business model is bound to fail!
Like what someone said: Let these lousy SMEs die faster much better. They can only stay alive by using cheap labour and ripping off employees. Why help these SMEs which die-die want to hire foreign talent in Singapore? Their existence or demise makes no difference to local workers as they will not hire them. If they love FT so much, let them go Pinoy or JB, where they can access to ample FT.
Of course I also understand not all SMEs are bloodsuckers in exploiting workers and some are actually very decent enterprises. I even know of a business owned by a foreign national which employs almost all Singapore workers. I suppose the owner is aware of the fact that he should contribute to the local economy and perhaps he finds it more productive for his workers to speak Singlish to clients. Haha....
Finally I am quite pissed off after gathering some information from whistle blowers working in some undesirable SMEs as below. Do you think we should revamp our SME culture and mindset??
1) Ask my SME for 10-12 days leave? Tell you go fly kite, die die give you only 7 days leave. Then have some nonsense rule stay 2 years = 1 day leave extra. Dental benefits purposely take 4-5 months to pay you back and hope you forget. Some even play and jiak their employees commission and make up bullshit "sales of items never hit xx,xxx amount so no commission" on the spot. Some lagi best, can 2 years in a row no give bonus to employee, one year even dun give AWS. Then the "shareholders" all upgrade to some super car end of the year, or take a 1 month leave to go Europe or something after announcing that.
2) Some die die don't want to give you 14 days medical leave. Got one interview I went to, the HR person say if want 14 days they will give me less pay. Wtf?
3) SME in sg main aim are to maximise profit at employee's expense.... They are majority run as Family Business, if you are not part of their family, you probably will not have much benefits. Bonuses and allowances are usually given more to family members... ... One SME i know is that all the family members in the business have company cars with all expense paid by the company account, regardless of their roles.
Ordinary employees can only take BMW- bus, mrt, walk
4) Since 2009 i have been remarking that SMEs in Singapore are having clutch mentality.... I used to do audit and had the unfortunate task of dealing with alot of those tuas SME. Their scale is not small but when u see their accounts. U just feel disgusted.... The bosses pay themself so much yet still crying to government hard to do business etc etc..... 9.5 out of 10 SME i dealt with, all paid crap benefits and salaries to their staffs while they pay themselves good amount coz they could just employ foreign trash.... i know of one that even declared super high dividend for themselves resulting in low overall profit, then go tell the staffs (non-finance) de that this year profit very low so no AWS/Bonus (btw they lump AWS as bonus)..... The finance manager i dealt with keep on bitching to me.
5) If SMEs cannot compete in pay, at least try to compete in the human touch lor. Some refuse to even reward employees in small ways, company D&D is in office with small spread of cheapo food, overseas trip claim is give you back 3 months later, etc.
6) SMEs cant make it lah..... Transport claim was close to pittance, no dental / medical benefits.... The director in my previous SME company gave NTUC vouchers as gift for one of my colleague's wedding.... I ji tao
